In a recent report, The Daily Mail stated that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz. It has been claimed that the Gunners are showing interest in bringing the Brazilian midfield ace to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Luiz’s Impressive Run Of Form At Villa Park
Luiz has enjoyed a solid campaign at the West Midlands club after he produced a series of influential performances at the centre of Unai Emery’s midfield. The Rio de Janeiro-born talent has played in 53 matches for the Villans this season, netting ten goals and securing ten assists on all fronts.
The 26-year-old has been a good performer at both ends of the pitch as he is averaging 1.7 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.4 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been careful when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 89.4% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Aston Villa will expire in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for Arsenal to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.
What Will Luiz Add To Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta’s Team?
Luiz is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team in the middle of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and can shoot the ball accurately from long range. The Brazilian midfielder has also got the eye to set up a few inviting chances for his teammates up top and is an energetic runner with the ball. He mainly plays as a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a defensive midfielder if told to do so.
Luiz would add more quality and depth to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department. He has what it takes to form a dominant partnership with Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard at the North London club in the coming seasons.
At 26, Luiz is about to enter his prime which makes him an excellent option for the Gunners to consider in the upcoming transfer window. He is good enough to help the London giants challenge for the Premier League title once again next season.
