In a recent report, Marca offered an update on the future of Real Madrid utility player Lucas Vazquez. It has been stated that the Madrid club are on the brink of agreeing on a new deal with the Spanish full-back which would keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium until next summer.
Vazquez’s Impressive Form In La Liga This Season
Vazquez is enjoying a decent campaign at the Spanish club as he has managed to put in a run of eye-catching displays for them on the right flank. The 32-year-old has banged in three goals and grabbed eight assists in 37 matches for Los Blancos this season across all fronts.
The Spanish wide player has proven his worth at both ends of the field based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 1.0 clearances, 1.0 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has also been tidy when distributing the ball from the right flank after completing 88.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Vazquez has played an important role in Carlo Ancelotti’s match-day squad. Thus, it is no surprise that Real Madrid want to keep hold of him beyond this summer.
Real Madrid Are On The Brink Of Agreeing On A New Deal With Vazquez: Good Move For Both Parties?
Vazquez is a good tackler of the ball and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed. He has got the eye to create a few inviting chances for his teammates from the right wing and is a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
The Spanish talent is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a wide player on either flank if asked to do so. He is currently good enough to serve as a good rotational piece in Ancelotti’s squad. Hence, it is only logical for Los Blancos to try and tie him down to a new, short-term contract.
At 32, Vazquez might still have a couple of good seasons left in him to play at his best. He has the winning mentality to help Real Madrid compete for some major silverware once again in the upcoming campaign. Thus, it seems like a good move for both the player and the Madrid club this summer.
