In a recent press conference (via Sport Bible), Xavi reacted to his controversial sacking as the head coach of Barcelona ahead of the Catalan club’s final league game against Sevilla this weekend. The Barca boss said,
“Thank you, I’m fine.
“Of course they were difficult days, not easy days. But well, I’m here with a clear mind and I would like to say that I am proud of the two and a half years as coach. It was not easy.”
Xavi went on to add, “I’m grateful to the president and I haven’t had any problems with the leaders. I’m a club man and I’ve adapted to the circumstances. The president gave me his reasons and I have no choice but to accept his decision.
“I’d love to return to Barca one day.
“Barcelona is the club of my life, I always said that. I’m not closing doors to Barca and to the possibility to return at the club one day.”
The 44-year-old has expressed his gratitude to the Catalan club and also revealed his desire to return to the Nou Camp someday. Xavi has taken charge of 141 matches for Barca thus far, picking up 2.06 points per game in the process across all competitions.
The Spanish head coach deserves some credit for winning the La Liga title once and the Spanish Super Cup once during his time at the Catalan club.
Xavi also revealed that he would forego the salary owed to him by the Spanish club. Speaking on the matter, he said,
“There won’t be a problem on this.
“I said it before. I will keep my word.”
Xavi’s recent comments follow Barcelona’s official announcement of his departure on Friday afternoon. The Catalan club thanked the Spaniard for his contributions and wished him the best for the future.
