In a recent report, Bild (via Sport) stated that Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez has asked to leave the Spanish club this summer. It is believed that the Spanish coach wants to leave his position as the Madrid club’s reserve team manager as he is eyeing a return to Germany.
Raul began his coaching career as a youth manager at Real Madrid back in 2018, a few years after retiring as a football player. He went on to coach the Spanish club’s Under-18 team before taking over as Los Blancos’ reserve team manager.
The Spaniard has taken charge of 170 matches for the Real Madrid Castilla side thus far, picking up 1.54 points per game in the process. Raul has begun to prove his worth as a football coach but might fancy taking over as a senior team manager for a top European club in the future.
His current contract at Real Madrid will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, Los Blancos would be powerless to stop him from leaving if he opts to seal a return to Germany where he previously enjoyed a spell as a player at Schalke.
Raul has got some valuable coaching experience under his belt during his time at Real Madrid over the past few years. However, he might be inclined to start his journey as a head coach soon.
Hence, it is no surprise that the Spaniard might opt to part ways with Los Blancos this summer in search of a fresh adventure in Germany. Raul played for Schalke in the latter stages of his playing career, so he won’t have any trouble adjusting to life in German football.
It’s unlikely that the Real Madrid legend would want to manage any other team in Spain apart from his boyhood club. Thus, it makes sense for Raul to seek a head coaching role away from his homeland this summer so that he can establish himself as a top manager in Europe over the next few seasons.
