In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona are showing interest in Bayern Munich full-back Joshua Kimmich. It has been stated that the Catalan club are confident about their chances of landing the German international this summer.
Kimmich’s Impressive Form In German Football
Kimmich is having a solid campaign at the Bavarian club after he put in a string of impressive displays on the right side of their defence. The 29-year-old has scored two goals and picked up ten assists in 42 matches for Bayern this season across all fronts.
The German talent has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.6 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 0.9 shots and 2.6 key passes per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from the right flank after completing 91.2% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will expire in the summer of 2025 which could open the door for the Catalan club to land him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Snap Kimmich Up This Season?
Kimmich is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot.
The German sensation can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to create some decent chances for his teammates in the opposition half. He is vastly experienced at the highest level and won’t need much time to settle into life at the Nou Camp if Barcelona can devise a way to bring him on board this summer.
We can expect Kimmich to bring more quality and depth to Xavi’s match-day squad. He might even help the Catalan club challenge for some major silverware over the next few years.
At 29, Kimmich is playing in his prime and will enter the final year of his contract at Bayern later this summer. Thus, it makes sense for Barca to snap him up by arranging a cut-price move for the player before the start of the new campaign.
