In a recent edition of the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, journalist Dean Jones stated that Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Aston Villa talent Jacob Ramsey. Jones said,
“Tottenham will try to sign a midfielder. They want homegrown players, they need to focus on players who are homegrown, that was said to me recently.
“So there’s a certain profile of player, so you’ll see the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Conor Gallagher, these type of players linked with Tottenham.”
Ramsey’s Important Role At Villa Park This Season
Ramsey has served as a good rotational piece in Unai Emery’s squad during this Premier League campaign. He has done well to put in a few impressive displays for them in the final third.
The English playmaker has caught the eye in the opponent’s half and deserves some credit for averaging 1.0 tackles, 1.2 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession after making 81.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Will Ramsey Be A Good Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Ramsey is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can create some decent chances for his teammates in the final third when he is playing well on the pitch. He is a pure striker of the ball but needs to find a way to be more productive in front of the opponent’s goal.
At the moment, Ramsey is not guaranteed a regular starting spot in Unai Emery’s first team which could give Spurs a chance to convince the player to make a switch to North London this summer. He would bring more energy and dynamism to Angelos Postecoglu’s attack.
At 22, Ramsey has the potential to be a future star in English football. Therefore, he would be a good fit for Tottenham‘s needs in the long run. Ramsey already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the North London club if Postecoglu can devise a way to bring him on board when the transfer window commences at the end of this campaign.
