In a recent report, Correio de Manha (3 May, Page 11) stated that Sporting CP centre-forward Viktor Gyokeres favours a move to Arsenal this summer. It has been claimed that the Swedish talent is open to sealing a move to join the Gunners at the end of this campaign.
Gyokeres’ Impressive Form In Portuguese Football
Gyokeres is having a fine season at the Portuguese club as he has put in a lot of productive displays for them in the final third. The Swedish talent has participated in 47 matches for Sporting during this campaign, scoring 41 goals and picking up 15 assists in multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old has proven his worth in the final third by averaging 3.4 shots, 1.6 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. However, he needs to be more careful when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, based on his pass completion rate of 73.7% in the Portuguese top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Sporting will expire in the summer of 2028 which would make it difficult for the Gunners to recruit him on the cheap later this year.
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Bring Gyokeres On Board?
Gyokeres is proficient at engineering some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. The Swedish forward has got the vision to create a few promising chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half and is a good dribbler with the ball as well.
At the moment, Gyokeres is playing some of the best football of his young career as he has banged in goals for fun for Sporting CP in Liga Portugal this season. We can expect him to bring plenty of firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s attack.
At 25, Gyokeres is about to enter his prime which makes him a good choice for the North London giants to consider later this summer. He might even help the Gunners challenge for some major silverware in the coming seasons.
With all things considered, Arteta would be wise to try everything in his power to bring Gyokeres on board when the transfer window commences later this year. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football.
