In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Real Madrid could rival Chelsea for AC Milan keeper Mike Maignan this summer. It has been mentioned that Los Blancos are showing interest in recruiting the French shot-stopper in the upcoming transfer window.
Maignan’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
The 28-year-old is having a solid campaign at the Italian club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in Serie A. Maignan has been involved in 42 matches for AC Milan this season, conceding 52 goals but keeping 15 clean sheets in the process on all fronts.
The French custodian has caught the eye at times in Europe as he is averaging 1.7 clearances and 7.8 long balls per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back after making 77.1% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Milan club will run out in the summer of 2026 which could make it difficult for Los Blancos to get a deal done for him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
Is Maignan A Decent Fit For Real Madrid?
Maignan is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make some crucial saves for his team at the back. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when at risk of being caught out inside his half.
The French sensation is a tidy passer of the ball as well. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Spanish football if Los Blancos manage to get him on board later this summer.
At 28, Maignan is about to enter his prime which makes him a great fit for Real Madrid‘s needs right now. He is more than capable of challenging for a regular starting spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s first team in the coming seasons.
The French keeper is good enough to help the Madrid giants compete across all fronts in the short term. Thus, it makes sense for Real Madrid to go all out to lure Maignan to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium when the summer transfer window commences at the end of this season.
