In a recent report, A Bola (via Sport Witness) mentioned that West Ham United have stepped up their chase to sign Anderlecht defender Zeno Debast. It has been stated that the Hammers have intensified their efforts to land the Belgian centre-half in the summer.
Debast’s Impressive Rise In Belgian Football
Debast has caught the eye with his performances in the Jupiler Pro League this season as he has been responsible for putting in a series of dominant displays for Anderlecht on the defensive end of the field. The Belgian talent has made 34 appearances for his current employers during this campaign but has failed to score or assist a goal for them across multiple competitions.
The 20-year-old has been a rock at the back for Anderlecht and is currently amongst the best young defenders in Belgian football. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his value at the highest level.
His current deal at the Belgian club will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for West Ham to land him on the cheap at the end of this season.
West Ham United Have Stepped Up Their Chase For Debast: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Debast is a tough-tackling defender who can make some important interceptions for his team when he is playing well on the pitch. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the offensive.
The Belgian youngster can also use his strong 1.91m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he is inexperienced at the highest level and would need time to adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of English football if West Ham manage to snap him up in the summer.
At 20, Debast is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future. Hence, he would be a terrific acquisition for the Hammers to pull off in the long run. However, the East London club would have to be patient with his development if they want to unlock the best out of the youngster.
