In a recent report, O Jogo (via Sport Witness) claimed that West Ham United are eager to land Anderlecht defender Zeno Debast this summer. It is understood that the Hammers would have to rival Sporting CP in the race to sign the Belgian defender in the upcoming transfer window.
Debast’s Impressive Form In Belgian Football
Debast has enjoyed a solid season at the Belgian club after putting in a run of impressive displays at the centre of their backline. The 20-year-old has already made 90 senior appearances for Anderlecht during this campaign, picking up one assist across various competitions.
The Belgian sensation has caught the eye with his performances on the defensive end of the field and is currently one of the most promising young players in Belgian football. His current contract at Anderlecht will expire at the end of next season which could open the door for West Ham to land him on a cut-price deal this summer.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Get Debast On Board?
Debast loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his strong 1.91m frame to win a few aerial duels for his team inside his half.
However, the Belgian youngster is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level. Still, there is no denying that he has the potential to be a future star in European football. Thus, West Ham should consider getting him on board in the summer transfer window.
At 20, Debast has a bright future ahead of him and would be a great signing for the Hammers to pull off in the long run. However, David Moyes would have to be patient with his development as he might need some time to adapt to the high intensity of Premier League football. All in all, Debast would serve as a decent addition to West Ham‘s squad if Moyes can find a way to land him this year.
