In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that West Ham United are among the clubs hoping to land Burnley ace Josh Brownhill. It is believed that the Hammers could face competition in the form of Crystal Palace and Brentford in the race to land the English talent this summer.
Brownhill’s Impressive Form At Turf Moor This Season
Brownhill has caught the eye with his performances at the centre of Burnley’s midfield this season. The 28-year-old has found the back of the net on four occasions and earned three assists in 32 matches for the English outfit during this campaign across various competitions.
The English talent has been a positive influence in both halves based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.9 shots and 1.0 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 80.5% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Burnley will expire at the end of this campaign which could open the door for the Hammers to recruit him on a free transfer later this summer.
West Ham United Are Among The Clubs Hoping To Land Brownhill?
Brownhill is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when needed and can even create the odd chance for his teammates in the opposition half.
The English midfield ace can even strike the ball with power from long range. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play in the number ten position or as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so.
Brownhill would undoubtedly enhance the quality of West Ham head coach David Moyes’ midfield. He is more than capable of securing a regular starting spot at the London Stadium next season. Therefore, he would be well worth the fight if the East London club can manage to bring him on board this summer.
At 28, Brownhill is playing in his prime but is on an expiring contract which makes him a worthy option for West Ham to consider in the upcoming transfer window.
