In a recent report, Calciomercato mentioned that Aston Villa are eager to land Inter Milan ace Denzel Dumfries. It has been claimed that the Villans are eyeing a move to bring the Dutch talent to Villa Park at the end of this season.
Dumfries’ Impressive Form In Serie A This Season
Dumfries is enjoying an impressive campaign at San Siro as he has managed to be a reliable performer on the right side of Inter’s midfield. The 27-year-old has registered three goals and picked up six assists in 31 appearances for the Milan outfit this season in various competitions.
The Dutch wide player has given a good account of himself by averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.8 clearances, 0.7 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back based on his pass completion rate of 79.8% in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Dutch club will expire in the summer of 2025 which could open the door for the Villans to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.
What Will Dumfries Bring To Aston Villa?
Dumfries is a solid tackler of the ball and doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when he can. He is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet on the right flank and can create some inviting chances for his teammates up top. The Dutch talent can even strike the ball with venom from long range. He is mainly a right-sided wide player but can also play as a right-back if told to do so.
Dumfries will bring more quality to Aston Villa‘s midfield department. He is good enough to help Unai Emery’s team compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. At 27, the Rotterdam-born sensation has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent target for the Villans to pursue in the upcoming transfer window.
However, Dumfries might struggle to adapt to the physical side and high intensity of English football if Aston Villa can manage to get a deal done for him later this summer. Still, Emery should focus on recruiting him and using him as a squad player next season.
