In a recent report, Defensa Central claimed that Real Madrid are eager to recruit Girona full-back Yan Couto who is currently playing on loan from Manchester City. It is understood that Los Blancos president Florentino Perez has given the green light for the Madrid club to land the Brazilian defender this summer.
Couto’s Impressive Loan Spell At Girona
Couto has enjoyed a decent loan spell at the Spanish club after putting in a series of impressive performances for them in the final third. The 21-year-old has scored two goals and picked up eight assists in 33 matches for Girona this season in all competitions.
The Brazilian talent has caught the eye at both ends of the field as he is averaging 1.4 tackles, 0.6 clearances, 0.9 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the right flank based on his pass completion rate of 82.1% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Man City will expire in 2025 which could open the door for Los Blancos to sign him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
What Will Couto Bring To Real Madrid?
Couto is a solid tackler of the ball and usually clears his lines when required. He can shoot the ball well from long range and can create some meaningful chances for others around him in the opponent’s half.
The Brazilian talent is a good crosser of the ball as well and can make a few driving runs with the ball on the right flank. He is primarily a right-back but can also function as a right-winger if asked to do so.
Couto would bring more quality to Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at the Madrid club in the coming seasons.
At 21, Couto has the potential to be one of the best players in his position someday. Therefore, Los Blancos would do well to bring him on board when the transfer window reopens later this year. He already knows La Liga well and won’t take much time to cope with life at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
