La Liga side Barcelona have identified Fiorentina full-back Michael Kayode as a viable target for the summer transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes. The club will go for the youngster if they fail to seal a permanent deal for Joao Cancelo.
Michael Kayode has climbed up the ladders this season
Coming through the ranks of Juventus, Michael Kayode joined Fiorentina’s youth side in 2021. His impressive performances earned him a chance in the senior squad. And he didn’t disappoint as he has emerged as a valuable player for the Italian side.
The 19-year-old has become an integral part of the team, starting regularly. He has featured in 30 games this season so far, netting once and providing four assists. He mainly plays as the right-back but is also equipped well to operate in the left full-back position.
Kayode excels in the defensive aspects of the game as he has raw pace and insane strength. He often makes crucial interceptions and blocks to defuse building threats. He has also got the skills to get out with the ball from tight spaces, though he needs to work on his crosses.
Should Barcelona make a move for Michael Kayode?
Barcelona want to sign Joao Cancelo on a permanent deal in the summer after his impressive display of performances for the club this season. However, Manchester City will definitely demand a premium fee to sanction the move.
The Spanish club, who are already going through a financial crunch, might not be able to meet the English club’s high demand. Hence, they are also looking for alternatives in the market. Michael Kayode is on the radar as he has emerged as one of the best full-backs in Serie A this season.
The youngster has huge potential and can turn into a world-class player with proper guidance and experience. He could be a long-term investment for the club. However, Barcelona might hesitate to rely on him for big nights. Reportedly, Ivan Fresneda is another option available.
