In a recent interview with TV Play, journalist Fabio Santini mentioned that Liverpool have made an offer for Juventus ace Federico Chiesa. Santini said,
“What does Juventus do? They might sell Chiesa and not Vlahovic as is being rumoured. There are offers on Chiesa from the Premier League bigwigs, particularly Liverpool.
“By selling Chiesa they bring home around €40-45m, with that amount Juventus can go and knock on Retegui’s door, who should not be seen here as a duplicate of Vlahovic, but if anything as his sidekick. Here too, Juventus will have to do, as they say in Milan, the servant’s accounts.”
Chiesa’s Inconsistent Campaign In Italian Football
Chiesa has experienced an up-and-down season at the Italian club as he has struggled to be consistent with his productivity in the final third. The 26-year-old has scored seven times and picked up a couple of assists in 25 matches for Juve during this campaign across various competitions.
The Italy international has given a good account of himself on the left wing based on his average of 2.2 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after completing 76.5% of his attempted passes in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Liverpool Go For Chiesa?
Chiesa is a good dribbler with the ball and can make a few decent plays for others around him on the offensive end of the pitch. He can shoot the ball with power and precision from long range but needs to figure out a way to be more decisive in front of the opponent’s goal.
The Italian talent mainly functions as a left-sided wide player but can also operate on the right wing or play as a striker down the middle if needed. We can expect him to inject more quality into Liverpool‘s frontline. He might even help the Reds challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons.
At 26, Chiesa is about to enter his prime but it remains to be seen whether he can make a smooth transition to life in English football if the Merseyside club manage to sign him this summer. Still, the Reds should go for someone with Chiesa’s skillset as he could help them win some major honours in the coming seasons.
