Premier League club Manchester City have been linked to Real Madrid winger Rodrygo for some time. They want to add him to their ranks and bolster the attacking unit ahead of the next season. However, instead of going for a cash deal, they are aiming to do a swap.
The Citizens are willing to offer star attacker Julian Alvarez in their attempt to bring the Brazilian to the Etihad Stadium, according to Defensa Central. However, the Spanish club might not be too keen on releasing Rodrygo as he has got immense potential.
Rodrygo has established himself in La Liga
Rodrygo‘s impressive stint with Santos resulted in Real Madrid signing him in 2019 for a reported fee of €45 million. His move to the Spanish league skyrocketed his professional career. He has his own identity and has established himself as a quality attacker.
The 23-year-old has 13 goals and eight assists to his name in 41 games this season. He is averaging 2.6 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game. With over 90% passing accuracy rate and no significant weakness, he is one of the best offensive players in the world at present (stats via whoscored).
Being from Brazil, Rodrygo is obviously very skilful with the ball at his feet. He has great dribbling skills and, a vision to give key passes and through balls. He is also very effective at taking set pieces and shooting into the goal from a long range.
A good move deal for everyone?
Though Julian Alvarez has been a solid utility player for Manchester City, they are willing to let him for Rodrygo. Boss Pep Guardiola believes that the latter player will add more depth and flexibility to the side. The Brazilian attacker can pair up with Erling Haaland to form a solid duo up front.
Rodrygo also understands that he might not be able to get enough game time if Kylian Mbappe arrives in the summer. He will be willing to make a switch in search of game time. Hence, the deal will be good for all the parties involved.
