In a recent tweet, Sky Sport journalist claimed that Arsenal are set to rival Liverpool for Borussia Dortmund star Donyell Malen. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are showing interest in acquiring the services of the Dutch wide player this summer.
Malen’s Decent Numbers In German Football
Malen has enjoyed an impressive campaign at the German club as he has put in a string of eye-catching performances for them in the final third. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net 13 times and picked up five assists in 33 matches for Borussia Dortmund this season in all competitions.
The Dutch wing wizard has been a decent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.6 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession on the offensive end of the pitch based on his pass completion rate of 79.6% in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Signal Iduna Park will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, it won’t be easy for the Gunners to sign him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Arsenal Are Set To Rival Liverpool For Malen: Is He Worth The Fight?
Malen is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs out on the flanks. He has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third. The Dutch talent can shoot the ball with power and accuracy from long range. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also function as a left-winger or play as a centre-forward up top if asked to do so.
We can expect Malen to add more firepower to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s frontline. He has what it takes to increase competition for places within the North London club‘s match-day squad.
At 25, Malen has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Gunners to pursue in the summer transfer window. At 25, he will only get better in the coming years. All in all, Malen would be well worth the fight, so Arteta should focus on trying everything in his power to lure him to the Emirates Stadium later this year.
