In a recent report, AS offered an update on the future of Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. It has been claimed that Los Blancos have still not opened talks with the Ukrainian goalie over a new contract.
Lunin’s Impressive Season In Spanish Football
Lunin has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium as he has managed to put in a handful of solid displays for the Madrid giants in La Liga. The 25-year-old has been involved in 22 matches for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season, conceding 17 goals and picking up ten assists on all fronts.
The Ukrainian custodian has given a good account of himself in between the sticks and has done well to average 1.1 clearances and 2.7 long balls per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass completion rate of 87% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Lunin’s current deal at the Madrid club will expire at the end of next season. Hence, Ancelotti needs to tie him down to a new contract or consider cashing in on him this summer before he enters the final year of his contract.
What Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Do With Regards To Lunin?
Lunin is a good handler of the ball and has got quick reflexes that help him pull off a few solid saves at the back. He can be a safe pair of hands in goal and deserves credit for proving his worth as a capable keeper at Real Madrid this season.
When fit, the Ukrainian sensation is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Bernabeu. However, he will enter the final year of his contract at the Madrid club next season.
Thus, Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti should think about offering him a new contract or letting him go at the end of this campaign. Real Madrid could use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a capable replacement.
At 25, Lunin is about to enter his prime soon. Therefore, it is only fair to the player if the Madrid outfit allow him to leave if they are not willing to play him regularly in the coming years.
