In a recent report, Sport offered an update on the future of Barcelona winger Joao Felix who is playing on loan from Atletico Madrid. It is believed that Jorge Mendes is working on another move to bring the Portuguese attacker back on loan to the Catalan club for another season.
Felix’s Impressive Loan Spell In La Liga
Felix is having a decent campaign at the Nou Camp as he has managed to catch the eye at times on the left side of Xavi’s attack. The Portugal international has scored eight goals and picked up five assists in 31 matches for Barca this season across all competitions.
The 24-year-old has been a good performer in the final third based on his average of 2.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after completing 83.9% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Atletico Madrid will run out in the summer of 2029. Thus, it won’t be a possibility for Barca to fund a permanent move for Felix later this year.
Barcelona Are Trying To Sign Felix On Loan: Good Move For Everyone Involved?
Felix can engineer some space for himself and usually keeps his strikes on target. He has got the eye to create some inviting chances for others around him from the wide areas. He can even make a few dangerous runs with the ball in the opponent’s half.
The Portuguese sensation is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also play as a striker down the middle if told to do so. However, he needs to find a way to improve his numbers on the offensive end of the field.
At 24, Felix will only get better with each season. Thus, it makes sense for Barcelona to try and arrange another loan move for him in the summer. He is good enough to help them compete across all fronts in the upcoming campaign.
All in all, it will be a good move for both the player and the Catalan club to extend their time together for another year.
