In a recent print edition, Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Aston Villa are showing interest in Juventus defender Dean Huijsen who is currently playing on loan at AS Roma. It has been revealed that the Villans would have to pay around €30-35m to secure the services of the Dutch centre-half in the summer.
Huijsen’s Impressive Loan Spell At Roma
The 18-year-old has caught the eye at times with his performances on loan at Roma during this campaign. Huijsen has found the back of the net twice and secured two assists in 22 appearances for the Italian outfit this season in various competitions.
The talented teenager has been a decent performer when defending inside his half as he is averaging 0.4 tackles and 2.2 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession after completing 88.1% of his attempted passes in the Italian top flight (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Juventus will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, it would be difficult for the Villans to recruit the Dutch talent.
What Will Huijsen Add To Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery’s Team?
Huijsen is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to clear his lines when the opposition are on the offensive. He even excels at playing his way out from the back and can use his strong 1.97m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air.
At the moment, Huijsen is enjoying his football at Roma. However, there are some concerns over whether he can cope with the high intensity of English football if the Villans manage to seal a move for him in the summer.
Huijsen has the potential to become a future star at the highest level which makes him a decent, long-term target for Aston Villa to consider later this year. He might add more bite and steel to Unai Emery’s defence and help the West Midlands club compete on all fronts in the future.
At 18, the future looks quite promising for Huijsen as long as he continues to improve with each season. Thus, Emery would be wise to go all out to bring him to Villa Park soon.
