In a recent report, Record (via Sport Witness) mentioned that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Porto wide player Galeno. It is understood that the Magpies have sent scouts to catch the Brazilian winger in action for the Portuguese club recently.
Galeno’s Decent Numbers In Portuguese Football
Galeno has enjoyed an impressive campaign at Porto as he has managed to produce a series of eye-catching displays for them on the left wing. The Brazilian sensation has scored 12 times and earned ten assists in 35 matches for the Portuguese outfit this season in multiple competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.0 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Liga Portugal. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 76.2% in the Portuguese top tier (stats via whoscored).
Galeno’s current contract at the Portuguese club will expire in the summer of 2028. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to get a deal done for him later this year.
What Will Galeno Bring To Newcastle United?
Galeno is a decent dribbler with the ball and can make some eye-catching runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
The Brazilian sensation is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also function on the right wing if asked to do so by his manager. At 26, he is about to enter his prime which makes him a great choice for the Magpies to consider in the summer transfer window.
Galeno will bring more goals and creativity to Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He will also help the Tyneside club challenge across all fronts over the next few years. However, there are some question marks over whether the Brazilian talent can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Newcastle manage to get him on board at the end of this season. Still, Howe should focus on getting a deal done for the Porto talent soon.
