In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Rayo Vallecano keeper Stole Dimitrievski this summer. It has been revealed that the Catalan club are planning to sign the North Macedonian talent who is set to become a free agent at the end of this campaign.
Dimitrievski’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football
Dimitrievski is having a solid campaign at the Spanish club after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in La Liga as their primary goalkeeper. The 30-year-old has conceded 36 goals but kept nine clean sheets in 26 appearances for Rayo Vallecano this season in league football.
The talented shot-stopper has done well to average 0.9 clearances and 5.2 long balls per 90 minutes in La Liga. However, he has lacked accuracy when distributing the ball from the back after making 54.6% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out at the end of this season which could open the door for Barcelona to land him on a free transfer this summer.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Snap Dimitrievski Up This Summer?
Dimitrievski is a solid shot-stopper and has got decent reflexes that help him make a few important saves at the back. He is a good handler of the ball and doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when needed.
Standing at 1.88m, the North Macedonian sensation is a towering presence inside his penalty box. However, he has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to be a success story at a top club like Barcelona.
On a free transfer, recruiting Dimitrievski seems like a no-brainer for Barcelona boss Xavi as he looks to strengthen his squad in the summer. At 30, he has got some top-flight experience under his belt in Spanish football. Hence, he would be a good, short-term addition to Barca‘s squad later this year.
Dimitrievski is more than capable of serving as the Catalan club‘s second-choice keeper. However, he is not good enough to play for Barcelona regularly at the highest level. Thus, Xavi should only consider snapping him up if he plans to use him sporadically in the coming seasons.
