In a recent report, Sport claimed that Arsenal are ready to make a move for Everton star Amadou Onana this summer. It has been stated that the Gunners could face competition in the form of Manchester United in pursuit of the Belgian talent in the upcoming transfer window.
Onana’s Decent Run Of Form In The Premier League
Onana has managed to prove his worth as a decent performer at the heart of Sean Dyche’s midfield during this campaign. The 22-year-old has made 27 appearances for the Merseyside club this season, scoring three times and earning one assist on all fronts.
The Dakar-born talent has caught the eye with his performances at the centre of the park as he is averaging 2.5 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.1 clearances, 1.0 shots and 0.6 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 84.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Goodison Park will expire in the summer of 2027 which would make it tough for the Gunners to sign him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Is Onana A Good Fit For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Onana is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his side when he is playing well on the field. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when needed and can shoot the ball with venom from long range. The Belgian sensation has got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the opponent’s half. He is a tidy passer of the ball as well.
We can expect Onana to bring more bite and steel to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s midfield. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium in the coming seasons.
At 22, Onana has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a great fit for the North London club‘s needs in the long run. He already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at Arsenal if Arteta can devise a way to win the race for him this summer.
