In a recent report, Fichajes claimed that Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi is gathering interest from other top European clubs ahead of the summer transfer window. It has been stated that both Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are showing interest in recruiting the Spanish centre-back from the Catalan club later this year.
Cubarsi’s Impressive Rise At Barcelona This Season
Cubarsi is having a bright campaign at the Nou Camp as he has put in a few eye-catching displays for Xavi’s side on the defensive end of the field. The 17-year-old has made 20 appearances for Barca this season, securing one assist on all fronts.
The Spanish defender has given a good account of himself on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 3.0 clearances per game in La Liga. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 91.2% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Catalan club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, Barca are in no immediate need to cash in on him in the upcoming transfer window.
Can Barcelona Afford To Lose Cubarsi This Summer?
Cubarsi is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot. Standing at 1.84m, the Spanish talent can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels on the defensive third of the pitch. He is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Cubarsi is currently serving as an important member of Barcelona head coach Xavi’s match-day squad. At 17, he has the potential to become a future first-team star at the Nou Camp. Thus, it makes no sense for Barca to consider cashing in on him this summer.
The Catalan club would be better off keeping hold of him for the long run as his market value will only grow in the coming years. All in all, Barcelona simply cannot afford to lose a player of Cubarsi’s high ceiling this year.
