In a recent segment on Sports Digitale, journalist Ertan Süzgün revealed that Aston Villa are facing tough competition for Besiktas starlet Semih Kılıçsoy. It is understood that the Villans would have to compete with Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the Turkish forward in the summer.
Kilicsoy’s Impressive Rise In Turkish Football
Kilicsoy has enjoyed a good run of form in Turkish football this season after putting in a run of productive displays as the focal point of Besiktas’ attack. The 18-year-old has participated in 23 matches for the Turkish outfit during this campaign, finding the back of the net ten times and earning one assist in the process across all competitions.
The Istanbul-born talent has led the line well for his current employers as he is averaging 2.7 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 71.1% in league football (stats via whoscored).
Kilicsoy is under contract at Besiktas until the summer of 2028 which would make it tough for the Villans to recruit him on the cheap at the end of this season.
Aston Villa Are Facing Stiff Competition For Kilicsoy: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Kilicsoy can find a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a streaky goal-getter in the final third and can create the odd chance for his teammates in and around the opponent’s penalty box. The Turkish starlet can even make a few intelligent runs with the ball in the opponent’s half. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth at the highest level.
Still, there is no denying that Kilicsoy’s ceiling is quite high which makes him a worthy target for the Villans to pursue in the long run. He is already good enough to serve as an ideal understudy to Ollie Watkins at Villa Park.
Plus, Kilicsoy would bring more goals to Unai Emery’s attack. Thus, the Aston Villa head coach should focus on getting a deal done for him in the summer as he is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future.
