In a recent report, Calciomercato revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. It has been stated that Spurs are ahead of the queue along with Liverpool in the race to sign the Dutch sensation in the summer.
Koopmeiners’ Impressive Season In Italian Football
Koopmeiners is having a solid campaign at the Serie A club as he has been responsible for putting in a series of dominant displays for them in the middle of the park. The Dutch talent has made 28 appearances for his current employers this season, scoring nine times and earning four assists in multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old has been a good performer in both halves based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 1.2 clearances, 1.8 shots, 2.2 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from midfield after making 81.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Koopmeiners is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2027. Hence, it won’t be easy for Spurs to acquire his services on a cut-price deal at the end of this season.
Is Koopmeiners A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Koopmeiners is a solid tackler of the ball and usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to set up a few promising chances for his teammates up top.
Koopmeiners is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder or function in the number ten position if asked to do so. The Dutch sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and is proficient at playing his way out from inside his half. At the moment, Koopmeiners is playing some of the best football of his career. Thus, he would be a great option for Spurs to consider in the summer transfer window.
At 25, the Atalanta midfield ace has his best years ahead of him. He would add more quality and depth to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s squad. Therefore, the North London club should focus on going all out to recruit Koopmeiners when the transfer window commences later this summer.
