In a recent report, Calciomercato revealed that Chelsea are facing tough competition for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. It has been stated that the Blues would have to rival Paris Saint-Germain in the race to acquire the services of the Nigeria international.
Osimhen’s Recent Form In Serie A
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a decent campaign at the Naples club as he has been responsible for putting in a string of fruitful displays for them in the final third. Osimhen has participated in 19 matches for the Italian outfit this season, scoring nine times and grabbing three assists in the process across multiple competitions.
The Nigerian sensation deserves a ton of credit for averaging 3.3 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. However, he has lacked quality when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 71.8% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
Osimhen is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2026 which could make it tough for the Blues to land him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
What Will Osimhen Add To Chelsea Boss Mauricio Pochettino’s Side?
Osimhen is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to create the odd chance for his teammates and is a powerful runner with the ball in the opponent’s half.
Standing at 1.86m, the Nigerian sensation can be a real handful for the opposition defenders but needs to find a way to improve his link-up play up top if he wants to become a more accomplished forward.
Osimhen would add plenty of firepower to Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino. He would serve as an upgrade over Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Armado Broja as they have all struggled to find consistency at Stamford Bridge this season.
Hence, Pochettino would be wise to go all out to bring Osimhen to the West London club when the transfer window reopens later this year. He is good enough to help Chelsea compete for some major trophies over the next few years. However, there are some concerns whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football.
