In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, journalist Dean Jones stated that Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on signing Chelsea playmaker Conor Gallagher. Jones said,
“Tottenham are absolutely convinced that he’s the kind of dream number eight that they’re after. So from a playing style, and personality on the pitch, Conor Gallagher really does fit the ethos of where they want to take this team. I’d say things that go against it at the moment are the fact that Conor Gallagher is Chelsea through and through. And that does sometimes play into whether a player would be willing to join a certain team. I’m not ruling out that he would join Tottenham, but it’s something to consider.”
Gallagher’s Good Run Of Form At Stamford Bridge This Season
Gallagher is enjoying a decent season at the West London club as he has been responsible for putting in a series of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The English midfield ace has done well to score three goals and secure six assists in 33 matches for Chelsea during this campaign in multiple competitions.
The 24-year-old has been a good performer in both halves based on his average of 2.5 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.5 clearances, 1.3 shots, 1.3 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from midfield after completing 90.9% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Move In For Gallagher?
Gallagher is a solid tackler of the ball and usually works his socks off for his team defensively. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well and has got the eye to play some decisive passes on the offensive end of the pitch.
The English talent can even shoot the ball with power and precision from long range. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also play in the number ten position or act as a holding midfielder if needed.
Gallagher would enhance the quality of Tottenham‘s midfield department and could help Angelos Postecoglu’s side challenge for some major honours over the next few years. Thus, it makes sense for the North London club to move in for him this summer.
