According to transfer insider Rudy Galetti, Chelsea are interested in signing Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen and is willing to trigger the release clause of €130m (£111m). They are trying to speed up the process and will meet the Napoli officials soon to discuss the payment structure.
However, the Blues are set to face tight competition from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), who are also interested in acquiring Osimhen. The French club are desperately looking for a replacement for Kylian Mbappe as the winger is set to leave the club following this season.
Victor Osimhen is a proven performer
Victor Osimhen has been one of the most solid performers in Serie A and a pivotal figure for Naples. Despite starting the season with a hamstring injury, he has contributed significantly. He has found the back of the net nine times and provided three assists in 18 games so far.
The centre-forward is averaging a whopping 3.4 shots, 0.8 key passes, and 0.7 dribbles per game. He is a physically strong guy who doesn’t shy away from getting into aerial duels. Though he isn’t good at holding the ball, his finishing skills are a class apart (stats via whoscored).
The Nigerian attacker was instrumental in Napoli’s league title victory after 33 years last season. He has appeared in 119 games, contributing 67 goals and 17 assists since joining the club in 2020. His current contract keeps him at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium until 2026.
Chelsea need to strengthen their squad
Chelsea have spent over £1 billion in the transfer ever since co-owner Todd Boehly took over the club in 2022. With Mauricio Pochettino looking to bolster their attacking unit for the next season, the club wouldn’t mind spending €130m for the effective Victor Osimhen.
The 25-year-old is well-experienced and equipped enough to excel in the English league. With multiple playmakers in the unit, Osimhen will settle in well in the lineup. His physicality and winning mindset will definitely help the side climb back to the top positions in the domestic league.
