In a recent report, Gazzetta dello Sport revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Genoa striker Albert Gudmundsson. It has been mentioned that Spurs are eyeing a move to acquire the services of the Icelandic international.
Gudmundsson’s Impressive Form In Italian Football
Gudmundsson has enjoyed a good run of form at Genoa this season as he has managed to catch the eye with his performances in the final third. The Icelandic sensation has featured in 24 matches for the Italian outfit during this campaign, netting 11 goals and earning three assists in all competitions.
The 26-year-old has been a good performer in the final third based on his average of 1.7 shots, 2.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 80% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in 2027, so Spurs would find it difficult to get a deal done for him when the transfer window reopens later this year.
Is Gudmundsson A Decent Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Gudmundsson can make a few driving runs with the ball in the final third and is a pure striker of the ball from long range. He has proven himself to be a capable finisher in front of the opponent’s goal and can also chip in by creating some inviting chances for his teammates in the final third.
Gudmundsson would bring more goals and assists to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s attack. He has what it takes to rival Richarlison for a regular starting spot at the North London club over the next few seasons.
At 26, Gudmundsson is about to enter his prime soon which makes him a great fit for Tottenham‘s needs in the short-term. He would help Spurs cope with fixture congestion better and compete across all fronts in the coming years. However, there are some question marks over whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Postecoglu can devise a way to bring him on board in the summer transfer window.
