In a recent report, Calciomercato stated that Newcastle United remain big admirers of Atalanta midfielder Ederson. It has been mentioned that the Magpies are eyeing a move for the Brazilian talent in the summer.
Ederson’s Impressive Form In Serie A This Season
Ederson has enjoyed a solid season at the Italian club after producing a series of impressive performances for them at the centre of the park. The Brazilian sensation has participated in 29 matches for Atalanta during this campaign, netting six goals and grabbing one assist across all fronts.
The 24-year-old has proven himself to be a consistent performer as he is averaging 2.7 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 1.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass completion rate of 83.7% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2026 which will make it tough for the Magpies to land him on a cut-price deal at the end of this season.
Is Ederson A Decent Choice For Newcastle United?
Ederson is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when required and can even make a few decent plays for others around him in the opponent’s half. The Brazilian midfield ace can even strike the ball with venom from long range and can make some energetic runs with the ball from midfield.
Ederson mainly functions as a box-to-box midfielder but can also operate as a holding midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so. He would bring more quality and depth to Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe’s midfield department.
At 24, the future looks quite promising for Ederson as long as he continues to get better with each season. He would no doubt help the Magpies compete across all competitions in the coming years.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Brazilian can make a smooth transition to life in England. Still, there is no denying that Ederson would be a great choice for the Tyneside club to consider this summer.
