In a recent report, Sport BILD (via Sport Witness) claimed that Barcelona are facing tough competition for Red Bull Leipzig winger Xavi Simons who is currently playing on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. It has been stated that the Catalan club would have to rival Arsenal, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich in the race to land the Dutch wide player.
Simons’ Productive Loan Spell In Bundesliga
Simons has enjoyed an impressive loan spell at the German club after putting in a series of impressive performances on the right side of their attack. The 20-year-old has scored six goals and picked up nine assists in 26 matches for Leipzig this season on all fronts.
The Amsterdam-born sensation has been a good performer in the final third as he is averaging 2.5 shots, 2.2 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 81% in league football (stats via whoscored)
Simons’ current deal at his parent club Paris Saint-Germain will expire in 2027 which would make it difficult for Barca to sign him on the cheap this month or at the end of this season.
Barcelona Are Facing Stiff Competition For Simons: Is He Worth The Fight?
Simons is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. He can strike the ball with venom and precision from long range.
The Dutch talent has done well to score and create his fair share of goals for RB Leipzig. He is primarily a right-winger but can also function as a left-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if asked to do so.
We can expect Simons to bring more firepower to Barcelona head coach Xavi’s attack. He has what it takes to nail down a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp.
At 20, Simons has the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, the Catalan club would be wise to move in for the Dutch wing wizard as he could be a future star in European football. All in all, Simons will be well worth the fight, so Barca should consider recruiting him this year.
