In a recent column on Caughtoffside, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Real Madrid have identified Bayern Munich ace Alphonso Davies as their primary target. Romano said,
“Alphonso Davies is a top target for Real Madrid in the summer. Nothing will happen this January, but Real Madrid want to push to sign Davies in the summer transfer window – they are working on it, discussing internally, with Davies always mentioned as one of their top targets.
“Bayern can try to extend Davies’ contract, for sure, but if they can’t get anything done by around April or May, then the left-back could leave and for sure Real Madrid will be there. Keep an eye on this one because Real Madrid certainly consider Davies one of their priorities for the summer window.”
Davies’ Impressive Form At The Allianz Arena This Season
Davies is having a good campaign at the German club as he has produced some impressive displays for them on the left flank. The Canadian sensation has picked up three assists in 24 matches for Bayern this season in all competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a reliable performer in both halves based on his average of 1.6 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, 1.4 clearances, 1.7 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from the left wing as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 89.6% in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Davies Add To Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti’s Side?
Davies is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his team on the defensive end of the pitch. He usually clears his lines when needed and is an excellent dribbler with the ball.
The Canada international can even engineer some promising chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half. He is primarily a left-back but can also operate as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Davies to add plenty of quality to Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. He has what it takes to help Los Blancos challenge for some major silverware in the coming seasons. At 23, Davies will only improve with each season which makes him a decent choice for Ancelotti to consider next summer.
