Oscar Bobb was Manchester City’s hero in their last match. He scored the game-winning goal late in the game to secure a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United. This was the 20-year-old’s second goal of the season. He joined the main team in September and has gradually increased his playing time.
Pep Guardiola praises Oscar Bobb
Pep Guardiola believes Oscar Bobb could be a valuable asset for Manchester City for as long as they can keep him on the team. The 20-year-old was subbed on into the game against Newcastle and scored the winning goal, helping City get back into the race for the Premier League title. Guardiola was really impressed with Bobb’s skills and the way he scored, especially with help from Kevin De Bruyne.
“We have another player for many, many years – if he decides to stay. Maybe he decides for now he is happy with those minutes. Cole Palmer was happy with those minutes, but after two or three years, they want more and it’s natural, it’s completely understandable. Maybe I don’t give them those minutes and they decide to go there. If he decides to stay, we have a player for many, many, many years,” Pep said.
Bobb’s cameo at St James’ Park was the highlight of an exciting night of football marked by some impressive goal-scoring. Bernardo Silva scored for City in the 26th minute with a clever shot from Kyle Walker’s pass, but then Alexander Isak’s great goal just before halftime made the score 1-1.
Two minutes later, Anthony Gordon scored again, putting City behind. City controlled the game in the second half but couldn’t score until 21 minutes before the end when Kevin De Bruyne came in. It was the Belgian maestro who scored a precise goal in the 74th minute, bringing the game to a tie.
The game seemed like it would end in a draw until a minute into extra time when Bobb got De Bruyne’s pass and skillfully moved past Kieran Trippier. Then, he poked the ball past Dubravka to win the game with his first goal in the league.
“He can play in five positions – striker, right-winger, left, in pockets – he is so dynamic, the work ethic is unbelievable. He doesn’t feel much the pressure. An important part of the season is November, December, a lot of games. Important players were not there and Oscar helped us, and that is great, it’s really, really great,” Pep added.
