In a recent report, The Independent stated that Tottenham Hotspur are keen on recruiting Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. It has been mentioned that Spurs are eager to seal a move for the English talent before the end of this month.
Gallagher’s Decent Season At Stamford Bridge So Far
Gallagher has put in a few impressive displays for the Blues this season but has struggled to be productive for them in the final third. The 23-year-old has picked up four assists in 25 matches for Chelsea during this campaign across all fronts.
The 23-year-old deserves a ton of credit for averaging 2.7 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 1.2 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He has even been tidy when distributing possession in the opponent’s half based on his pass success rate of 91.3% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Stamford Bridge will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, it won’t be easy for Spurs to sign Gallagher on the cheap in this January transfer window.
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Move In For Gallagher This Winter?
Gallagher can shoot the ball with power from long range and has got the eye to play a few decisive passes on the offensive end of the field. He can make some energetic runs with the ball in and around the opponent’s penalty box and doesn’t mind performing his defensive duties when not in possession of the ball.
The English talent is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also function as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so by his manager. Furthermore, he is an accurate passer of the ball and knows what it takes to be consistent in the Premier League.
Hence, it makes sense for Spurs head coach Angelos Postecoglu to move in for Gallagher before the end of this month. He has what it takes to earn a regular starting spot at the North London club in the coming years. Plus, Gallagher might even help Tottenham challenge across all competitions in the future.
At 23, the Chelsea playmaker will only get better with each year which makes him a good option for Postecoglu to consider in this winter transfer period.
