In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Arsenal are set to reignite their interest in Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. It has been stated that the Gunners are eyeing a move to bring the Spanish midfield ace to North London despite the player snubbing a move to join them last summer.
Zubimendi’s Impressive Run Of Form In La Liga
Zubimendi is having a solid campaign at the Spanish club after putting in a run of impressive displays at the centre of their midfield. The Spanish talent has participated in 28 matches for Real Sociedad this season, finding the back of the net on four occasions and earning one assist in the process across all fronts.
The 24-year-old has anchored the midfield with conviction based on his average of 1.7 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.7 clearances, 0.7 shots and 0.5 key passes per game in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 85.6% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Real Sociedad will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, Arsenal will have to launch a convincing offer if they want to recruit the Spaniard before the end of this January transfer window.
What Will Zubimendi Bring To Arsenal?
Zubimendi is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can create the odd chance for his teammates up top. The Spanish sensation can even shoot the ball with venom from long range. He can chip in by scoring and creating some important goals for his team as well.
Zubimendi mainly operates as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so. We can expect him to bring more bite and steel to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s midfield department. He would be an upgrade over Jorginho at the North London club.
At 24, Zubimendi has got his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the Gunners to consider this January. However, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
