Reece James, the captain of Chelsea, had a surgery on his hamstring because he got injured during a match against Everton. This injury happened in the 27th minute, and he had to leave the game. Reece had a similar problem in August and couldn’t play for two months. Even though he often gets injured, he’s considered one of the best players in his position globally. Gabriel Martinelli from Arsenal recently said Reece is the most challenging player to compete against.
Gabriel Martinelli on Chelsea captain Reece James
Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli says that the toughest opponent he’s ever played against is Reece James from Chelsea. He shared this information on TikTok on the official page of the Champions League.
Chelsea is dealing with the news that Reece James won’t be playing for several months due to his recent hamstring problem. He had surgery after seeking advice from specialists following the issue in the Everton game. Even though he became the club captain when Mauricio Pochettino joined, his absence has been a noticeable issue. However, he did play as a substitute in a game against strong opponents like Arsenal, and Chelsea performed really well in that match.
But even though Reece James came in as a substitute, Chelsea couldn’t prevent a late struggle, and they ended up with just one point when they left Stamford Bridge. On that day, Gabriel Martinelli played from the beginning for Arsenal, but, as usual for his season, he didn’t show a very strong performance. Surprisingly, he considers Reece James from Chelsea as his toughest opponent, putting him ahead of players like Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier.

Currently, Malo Gusto has taken James’s place and has been performing impressively in the last couple of games.
The 24-year-old had problems with his hamstring last season and couldn’t play for some time. It was a tough season for him because he also got injured and couldn’t participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to damage to his knee ligaments. This season, he has played in only nine games and got a red card in the loss to Newcastle in November.
