In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Barcelona are stepping up their efforts to sign Girona midfielder Aleix Garcia. It has been stated that the Catalan club are eager to seal a cut-price move for the Spanish talent this January.
Garcia’s Decent Season In La Liga
Garcia is having an impressive campaign at the Spanish club as he has produced a string of productive displays at the centre of the park. The 26-year-old has featured in 18 matches for Girona this season, scoring three goals and earning four assists on all fronts.
The former Villarreal midfield ace has caught the eye in both halves and deserves credit for averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.2 shots and 1.7 key passes per game in La Liga. He has even distributed the ball accurately after making 91.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, Barca will have to make a convincing offer if they want to recruit Garcia this winter.
Is Garcia A Good Option For Barcelona Boss Xavi?
Garcia is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his side in the middle of the park. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when required and can create some inviting chances for his teammates up top. The Spaniard can also strike the ball with power from long range. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a holding midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so.
Garcia would undeniably enhance the quality of Barcelona‘s midfield department. He is good enough to fight for a regular spot in Xavi’s starting XI. The Spanish sensation already knows La Liga well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Nou Camp.
At 26, Garcia’s peak years are ahead of him which makes him an excellent option for the Catalan club to consider before the end of this winter transfer window. However, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona can get a deal done for the Spanish playmaker on the cheap this month.
