In a recent report, Le 10 Sport mentioned that Manchester City have made contact to sign Lille starlet Leny Yoro. It has been stated that Pep Guardiola’s side could face competition from Manchester United in the race to land the French defender who will only be sold by the French club if they receive an ‘astronomical sum’ for the player.
Yoro’s Impressive Form In Ligue 1 This Season
Yoro is enjoying a solid campaign at Lille after he put in a series of dominant performances for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 18-year-old has found the back of the net three times in 21 matches for the French outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The French prospect has been a rock at the back for his current employers as he is averaging 1.3 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per game in Ligue 1. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from inside his half based on his pass completion rate of 90.9% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
Yoro’s current deal at Lille will expire in the summer of 2025 which could open the door for Man City to land him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.
Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Move In For Yoro?
Yoro is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his side inside his half He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Hence, it makes sense for Man City to move in for a player of Yoro’s skillset and potential. At 18, the future looks quite bright for the talented youngster. He will inject more bite and steel into Pep Guardiola‘s defence and could help Man City compete across all fronts in the coming seasons.
All in all, the Mancunian giants should focus on getting a deal done for Yoro this winter or at the end of this campaign as he will be a great acquisition for them in the long run. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
