In a recent report, ESPN revealed that Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz remains on the radar of Arsenal. It has been stated that the Gunners are still eyeing a move to sign the Brazilian midfielder from the Villans next year.
Luiz’s Decent Run Of Form In Premier League Football
Luiz has been one of Unai Emery’s best performers at Villa Park this season as he has put in a string of solid displays for the West Midlands club at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old has done well to score six goals and grabbed five assists in 27 matches for the Villans this season across various competitions.
The Brazilian talent has been a good performer in both halves based on his average of 2.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 1.8 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has even distributed possession accurately from midfield after completing 88.4% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Luiz is under contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2026. Hence, Emery has no immediate need to let him go when the transfer window commences at the start of next year.
Can Aston Villa Boss Unai Emery Afford To Cash In On Luiz?
Luiz is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can shoot the ball with venom from long range. The Brazilian sensation can create some decent chances for his teammates in the final third and is a good runner with the ball as well.
Luiz is one of Aston Villa‘s best players at the moment. Hence, the Villans simply cannot afford to cash in on him in the upcoming winter transfer window. Emery would be better off keeping hold of him at least until the end of this campaign before deciding on Luiz’s future.
At 25, the Brazilian midfielder would only get better with each year. His stock is only going to rise in the future, so Emery should focus on retaining his services for now as he could help the Midlands outfit secure European football next year.
