President of Argentina Javier Milei stated that Premier League club Chelsea, one of the richest clubs in Europe, is considering investing in Argentina. This follows a significant regulation change that allows clubs to become Sports Joint Stock Companies.
Chelsea to invest in Argentina?
Chelsea’s owners want to purchase a club in Argentina and expand, similar to the City Group’s idea of having linked football clubs. Argentina’s President, Javier Milei, says his proposed changes in the country could make it possible for this investment to happen.
Milei just started being in charge a few weeks ago, and he’s already thinking about football. He wants to make a new law so that Argentine football clubs can be public companies. He’s talked about this idea and mentioned that Chelsea and the people who own it want to invest in Argentina.
“There is not only one issue… First, because there are many investments waiting. There are many international football clubs that want to invest in Argentina. It goes without saying that Argentina is a cradle of stars. So, there is a lot of business to be done with the Argentine case,” he said.
“Suddenly, in a very short period of time, it could be representing investments of more than a billion dollars. In this context, where we are adjusting and need a quick response… In fact, as soon as the decree came out, Chelsea became interested in investing in Argentina. And then it has other types of issues, which make up the debate,” he added.

Chelsea’s management has been spending a lot of money since they bought Chelsea. They’re not just buying players; they’re also investing in other clubs. This year, they bought a French team called Strasbourg, and they want to keep doing more, following the business model of the City Group. Now, it looks like they’re interested in Argentina because of Milei’s changes, which make it easier for them to invest there.
