According to a report from Manchester Evening News, it has been suggested that Manchester City, along with two other English clubs, are monitoring the progress of Estevao Willian, a talented young Brazilian often likened to Lionel Messi and nicknamed “Messinho.”
Man United and Chelsea, also Premier League giants, are reportedly keeping tabs on the 16-year-old as well. However, due to revised transfer rules, Willian cannot make a move to City until he reaches 18 years old, unless he earns a call-up to the full Brazilian national team.
Willian’s Impressive Rise In Brazilian Football
Estevão Willian embarked on his football journey in 2017 by joining Cruzeiro’s youth academy. A significant turning point arrived in 2021 when, on May 6th, he made a pivotal move to Palmeiras’ youth academy, securing a trainee contract.
Since then, he has played a crucial role in Palmeiras’ youth squads, contributing significantly to their triumphs in esteemed tournaments such as the Campeonato Paulista Sub-17, Campeonato Paulista Sub-15, Copa do Brasil Sub-17, and Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-17.
At the under-17 level, he has impressively scored three international goals in five appearances, and his release clause is already set at a remarkable £60 million—a figure that top-tier clubs reportedly consider paying for his talents.
Is He A Decent Fit For Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola As A Future Investment?
Willian’s technical brilliance and flair on the ball have turned heads. His quick feet, dribbling prowess, and ability to unlock defenses echo Guardiola’s philosophy of possession-based, attacking football. Guardiola’s emphasis on technical precision and fluidity in passing aligns with Willian’s style, making him an intriguing prospect for City’s future plans.
Guardiola has a track record of nurturing young talent, evident in his grooming of players like Phil Foden. Willian’s age and potential suggest that he could benefit from Sky Blues’ focus on youth development. However, patience will be key as he navigates the transition to senior football. Guardiola’s knack for mentoring young stars could elevate Willian’s growth, given the right nurturing environment.
Man City’s willingness to make such huge financial commitments for young talent has been evident in the past and we could see them go all in for the Brazilian wonderkid.
