Lewis Hall is still a vital part of Newcastle United’s future ambitions, according to Eddie Howe, despite the fact that the young player hasn’t played much since signing from Chelsea in the summer. Hall, a defender, joined St James’ Park on loan in August, and there is an agreement in place to buy him permanently if certain requirements are met.
Even though Newcastle United has had many players injured this season, Lewis Hall has only played for 78 minutes in the Premier League. Additionally, he didn’t get to play in the Carabao Cup match against Chelsea on Tuesday, and he stayed on the bench during the penalty shootout.
Eddie Howe on Lewis Hall
Talking on Friday before the match against Luton on Saturday, Eddie Howe shared, “He’s settled in fine. He’s working well, I think we need to develop certain areas of his game. We have no doubts of his qualities and what he can bring to the team.”
“He is doing a lot of things behind the scenes, we work with him daily. He was brought in with a view for the here and now. My view would be a bit of patience with Lewis,” he added.
Howe was then asked about whether Lewis Hall will stay at Newcastle United after the season ends.
“Chances of Hall staying at the club on long-term? Absolutely. His transfer is complicated and he hasn’t quite hit the criteria. But he’s part of our long-term plans, he’s working well,” Howe further added.

Hall played his first game for Chelsea in a big win against Chesterfield in January 2022. In the next season, he played nine times in the Premier League as Chelsea ended up in 12th place. This season, the 19-year-old has started in the league only once, in a 2-0 loss to Bournemouth in November, where he was taken out at halftime. Before that, he scored his first goal for the team in a 3-0 Carabao Cup win against Manchester United and also made his debut in the Champions League, though they lost to Borussia Dortmund.
