In a recent report, Relevo claimed that Barcelona are willing to sell Andreas Christensen this winter. It has been stated that the Catalan club are open to letting the Danish talent leave as they look to balance their books going into the new year.
Christensen’s Good Form In Spanish Football
Christensen is enjoying a decent campaign at the Nou Camp as he has managed to put in a handful of solid displays for Barca on the defensive end of the field. The 27-year-old has registered one assist in 17 appearances for the Catalan outfit this season across all fronts.
The Denmark international has been a good performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 0.5 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.8 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back as evidenced by his pass success rate of 96% in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Catalan club will run out in the summer of 2026. However, Barcelona’s recent financial concerns could see them cash in on Christensen in the January transfer period.
What Should Be Barcelona Boss Xavi’s Play With Regards To Christensen?
Christensen is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few important interceptions for his team on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive and can even play his way out from the back. Standing at 1.87m, the Denmark international can be a dominant force in the air when he is playing well on the pitch. He is even proficient at playing in both centre-back positions.
Christensen remains a very reliable member of Barcelona head coach Xavi’s squad. However, the Catalan club‘s recent financial concerns have made the Danish sensation’s exit a real possibility this winter as Barca look to balance their books.
Hence, Xavi would have no choice but to cash in on Christensen as it would lower the club’s wage bill. With all things considered, Barcelona would be wise to find a suitable replacement on the cheap before letting the Danish defender leave when the transfer window commences at the start of next year.
