In a recent print edition, Nice-Matin mentioned that Newcastle United are among the clubs hoping to land Nice ace Jean-Clair Todibo next year. It is believed that the Magpies will face competition in the form of Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the French centre-back.
Todibo’s Decent Run Of Form In Ligue 1
Todibo has been a solid presence at the centre of Nice’s defence after putting in a handful of impressive displays for them in Ligue 1. The French talent has picked up one assist in 14 matches for the French outfit this season across multiple competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a rock at the back and deserves a ton of credit for averaging 1.9 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.2 clearances per game in Ligue 1. He has also been careful when distributing possession from inside his half after completing 90.7% of his attempted passes in the French first division (stats via whoscored).
Todibo is under contract at the French club until the summer of 2027. Therefore, the Magpies will have to make a convincing offer if they want to win the race for the French defensive ace next year.
Is Todibo A Good Choice For Newcastle United?
Todibo is a tough-tackling defender who can make a few timely interceptions for his team on the defensive end of the field. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. The French centre-half is even proficient at playing his way out from the back when he is playing well on the field.
We can expect Todibo to bring more bite and steel to Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe’s defence. He could even help the Magpies challenge across all fronts over the next few years.
At 23, Todibo will only get better with each season which makes him a perfect choice for the Tyneside club to pursue in 2024. He has got what it takes to be a success story at St. James’ Park in the long run. However, only time will tell whether Todibo can cope with the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football if Howe manage to bring him on board this winter or at the end of this campaign.
