In a recent report, Takvim provided an update on the future of West Ham United attacker Maxwel Cornet. It has been mentioned that the Ivory Coast wide player wants to leave the Hammers this January amid interest from Fenerbahce.
Cornet’s Lack Of Game Time At The London Stadium This Season
Cornet has been a sporadic presence in West Ham’s squad this season after struggling to earn a regular spot in David Moyes’ first XI. The 27-year-old has failed to find the back of the net but has secured one assist in six matches for the Hammers during this campaign across various competitions.
The Ivory Coast sensation has made all of his appearances in Europe off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.3 shots, 0.3 key passes and 0.3 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has been careful with his ball distribution based on his pass success rate of 81.8% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the London Stadium will expire in the summer of 2027. Therefore, Moyes does not need to cash in on the Ivory Coast international unless he receives a favourable offer for the player in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Should West Ham United Head Coach David Moyes Cut Cornet Loose?
Cornet is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can create the odd chance for his teammates when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. He can even strike the ball with venom from long range but needs to find a way to improve his consistency in front of the opponent’s goal.
Cornet has served as a decent presence in West Ham boss David Moyes’ match-day squad this season. However, the player needs to seek a move elsewhere in search of more game time in the coming seasons if he wants to get his career back on track.
At 27, Cornet is about to enter his prime soon. Therefore, it is only fair to the talented winger if the Hammers allow him to leave when the transfer window commences this January. Moyes would be wise to cash in on him and use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of his West Ham squad.
