In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona are in the race to land Lille starlet Leny Yoro. It has been stated that the Catalan outfit will have to rival Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Real Madrid in pursuit of the French defender.
Yoro’s Excellent Rise In Ligue 1
Yoro has come through the youth ranks of Lille and deserves credit for establishing himself as a key member of their first team. The French prospect has enjoyed a decent campaign at the French club after scoring three goals in 18 matches for them so far across all fronts.
The 18-year-old has been a dominant presence when defending inside his half as he is averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 3.2 clearances per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been excellent when distributing possession from the back based on his pass completion rate of 91.3% in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Lille will run out in the summer of 2025. Therefore, it won’t be easy for Barcelona to sign him on the cheap when the transfer window reopens this January.
Barcelona Are In The Race For Yoro: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Yoro is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.90m, the French whizkid can use his powerful frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to settle into life at the Nou Camp if Barcelona manage to win the race for him next year.
Yoro is already good enough to challenge for a regular spot in Xavi’s first XI. At 18, he is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the future and could help the Catalan club compete for a lot of major honours over the next decade. All in all, Xavi should consider trying everything in his power to lure Yoro to Spanish football in 2024.
