Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Daniel Sturridge could play a more important role if he remains fit for the rest of the season.
Sturridge has a history of getting injured at crucial times. Since his arrival from Chelsea in 2013, the forward has been facing problems with his injuries. The 227-yearold has spent the season mostly on the bench and only started in five Premier League matches so far.
Klopp could use him from the first minute against Southampton in the League Cup semifinal on Wednesday. The England international scored a brace in each in his previous two Cup games so far. With Sadio Mane unavailable for a long time, Klopp could use him more often in the upcoming matches.
The gaffer said, “Listen, we have spoken a lot of times about this.
“If Daniel is fit, are there any arguments here ever about his quality? No. If he stays on this fitness level, and improving as he always should, that is perfect. It would be cool if we could speak like this for the next few weeks and months.
“His talent and skill there is absolutely no doubt about. Cleverness … Everything you need on the pitch is absolutely outstanding. But he has not been often enough fit. That is how it is.”
