In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, transfer insider Dean Jones tipped Tottenham Hotspur to land Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah. Jones said,
“I still think Tottenham is definitely a potential destination for him. Tottenham were serious about him in the summer, and we’ve seen that they do need to bulk up their squad.
“I do think Chalobah, being a centre-back who also has the capability to play in midfield, is one to still look out for. But he is also going to have the potential to go abroad.
“For Trevoh Chalobah, I think that could be a really interesting opportunity if you consider what’s happened recently with Ruben Loftus-Cheek going and testing himself abroad. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Chalobah were to get similar offers.”
Chalobah’s Impressive Form At Stamford Bridge Last Season
Chalobah has still not made an appearance for the Blues this season as he has been struggling with a serious thigh injury. The English talent proved himself to be a capable presence at the back for Chelsea last season when he featured in 34 matches for them across all competitions.
The 24-year-old was a rock at the back based on his average of 1.2 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 2.2 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even excellent when distributing possession from inside his half based on his pass success rate of 88.5% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Snap Chalobah Up?
Chalobah is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear his lines when needed and can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels.
If Chalobah can find a way to overcome his recent injury concerns, he could still have a bright future in English football. At 24, the best is yet to come from the English centre-back. Hence, Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu should think about taking a chance on him next year.
Chalobah would add more quality and depth to the North London club‘s defence and could help Spurs challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. Thus, Postecoglu should go all out to snap him up soon.
