In a recent report, The Evening Standard claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on OGC Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo. It has been stated that Spurs are showing interest in recruiting the France international next year.
Todibo’s Impressive Form In Ligue 1
Todibo is enjoying a solid campaign in French football as he has been responsible for putting in a few impressive displays at the heart of Nice’s defence. The French centre-half has featured in 11 matches for his current club this season, picking up one assist in various competitions.
The 23-year-old has been a reliable presence on the defensive third of the pitch based on his average of 2.0 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 2.8 clearances per game in Ligue 1. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession from inside his half after completing 90.1% of his attempted passes in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2027 which would make it difficult for Spurs to land him on the cheap next year.
Is Todibo A Good Choice For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Todibo is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear his lines when needed and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.90m, Todibo can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. He has managed to prove his worth as a decent defender in Ligue 1. However, the jury is still out on whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of Premier League football if Spurs manage to get him on board soon.
Todibo will add more bite and steel to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglu’s defence. He might even help the North London club challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. At 23, Todibo has his best years ahead of him which makes him a perfect choice for Tottenham to consider for the long run.
With all things considered, Postecoglu would be wise to try everything in his power to bring the Frenchman to the English capital this January.
